Took Barbara to beach on Sunday. Bottled out in going for a full dip, wish I hadn't though.

This song will blow your tits off.

Went to see an entertaining Matt Berry play at the Relentless Garage last night. You may be familiar with him from television shows such as Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace and Snuff Box, where he sings the odd song on both shows I do believe.
Anyway, he has recently released an album called
Witchazel and it’s worth checking out if you have eclectic taste.

Oh and a quote from Garth Marenghi mentioning Leytonstone for all you E11 fans out there.

Garth Marenghi: [reading an excerpt from one of his novels] Mike stared in disbelief as his hands fell off. From them rose millions of tiny maggots. Maggots? Maggots. Maggots. Maggots. Maggots... all over the floor of the post office in Leytonstone.

Why do only fools and Bearman's work

I noticed this photo in the Birbeck Tavern.  It's a photo of Leytonstone High Road, circa 1936 and was taken from the roof of the public library. Sadly Bearman's the department store is longer there and now a Matalan stands in it's place. The Matalan store used to be a Co-op and was once used as a location for Only Fools and Horses in the episode 'The Longest Night'
How's that for a pub trivia fact.

A photos of Leytonstone High Road with a view of Bearman's, This picture sits on the wall at the Birbeck Tavern near Leyton tube station

Location, location. Leytonstone High Road as it is today

A screen grab from Only Fools and Horses, episode 'The Longest Night'. Just behind Uncle Albert is the Matalan carpark, with the DDS building at the back.

Regent's Canal

Walked from Shoreditch to Leyton. Not too sure I'd like to do this walk after a few beers on a Friday night.

Guitar Strokes

They’ve revamped the The North Star pub... Okay, so they’ve only built a small stage, they haven’t transformed it into Brush Strokes’ Elmo Putney’s Wine Bar or anything. However, this does make for better viewing pleasure, whilst sipping a Bombardier. Oh, they’ve added some snazzy lights to give it some atmosphere too.
I caught Cowbell and The Tonebrokers, playing their over the weekend. With the
Tonebrokers, I never new there was some many mouth organs out there and as for Cowbell, I think the management demanded them to play about 5 encores. So be warned if your a future possible headliner.

Leyton Midland Road railway station

Wikipedia entry :
Opened on 9 July 1894 as part of the Tottenham & Forest Gate Railway, the station was originally just called "Leyton". On 17 August 1915, three explosive bombs from the German Zeppelin L.10 landed on or near the station, destroying the ticket office, a billiard hall in the arches under the platform and damaging several houses nearby. Four people were killed.

Sparklehorse, circa 1998

I'm slowly going through my old gig photos and getting them scanned. this is a tedious task as there's a lot of 90s indie-bands that I wouldn't even be able to tell you what their hit or hits were? I've also misplaced stuff from over the years too.
Still, occasionally I find the odd gem including this shot of Mark Linkous from Sparklehorse and who is sadly no longer with us. Luckily I used to make an effort in dating my slides, this was taken on the 22 July 1998 at the Hackney Empire.

No eye Deerhunter

A couple of shots from Deerhunter's gig at the Shepherds Bush Empire. I believe he was quite chuffed that they used to film The Old Grey Whistle Test from there. I was quite chuffed to grace the photographers pit, it's been a long time since I've sat in one.
