I had to pick up another sleep testing machine from Whipps hospital. I cut through Wood Street on the way back home. I like Wood Street, its' similar to one of those towns on Route 66, the towns that stood still when everybody took to the freeways. Tesco's haven't got to it yet, although I have heard that Morrison's might open a shop. Apart from Elvis impersonators, there's also an indoor market where one can purchase football and WW2 memorabilia.

Not too sure if the Barbara Striesand shrine is for sale, but there's now free spaces for local artists. Wow, It could soon become like an apocalyptic Paris.

The F.A. cup was rolled into the office yesterday. Picture below of (Sir) Trevor Brooking and Frank Lampard (Sr) , parading the cup at Wembley, circa 1980. I remember watching that game on telly, okay I didn't watch it all as I was only 6. At the time I had the kit, the sticker book and the pop song that was released at the time too. I guess this was all aided by my Granddad, a huge West Ham fan making sure that the claret and blue seed (or what ever the correct footy term is) was planted in my brain. Yep, thanks to him I get to follow the West Ham United.

Check out the London transport museum and you can buy various old patterns that have been restored and turned into various furnishings. I quite like the District's line Misha Black, circa 1978. Leica V-Lux 30

The good people of Leica allowed me to borrow the V-Lux 30 for the week. I lot of Leica purists will turn their noses up at this camera due to the nature of it being a compact. However in its defence, this camera is pretty much aimed at that particular compact digital market. The V-lux has a large touch screen, which allows allowing you to pinpoint what you’re focusing on. So, I guess you can say goodbye to those annoying out of focus holiday shots. Oh,did I mention that it has a GPS setting too. Being a Leica, the lens has just that extra edge over its fellow rivals, allowing light to trickle into the shadows that other lenses just don’t reach. There’s also a bespoke case that you can order for this camera too, making this compact quite a dapper accessory. The other part of it being a Leica, will be the price tag that comes with it. Apart from that I left the instruction manual at home, set the camera to P and then figured out how to use it from there. Easy-peasy.

Idea Generation are exhibiting a retrospective of Brian Duffy’s work, this runs to the 28th of August. Beautiful compositions resulting with his sitters looking effortlessly cool. Will looking at images of Jude Law in 30 years time be as equally interesting? The photo captions at the exhibition are brilliant too, they give you a very interesting insight into the way he would have worked. There’s also a collection of various stuff from he’s studio, including he’s working diary. I wonder how Elaine Smith’s engagement party went?

You might stumble across some of these little Photographic print folders in your parents and grand parents lofts. Sadly, they now tend to gather dust amongst the ever increasing photography slagheap. I might start collecting a few of them, it might be interesting to see what sort of holiday example pictures would be on a mid 1950s one compared to a late 1990s one.

London Street Photography Festival

There’s a London Street Photography Festival taking place over July. I popped along to the preview last night.
If you happen to be in town then may I suggest that you check out the newly discovered work (the pic of the 3 yellow people below) of Vivian Maier, amazing stuff. There’s also some interesting work by Nick Turpin and Nils Jorgensen in Kings Cross station too. So there you go, no excuses of being bored with nothing to do over the weekend.
